Six Sentence Sunday ~Married by Monday

Being asked out on a date should always feel like this!

Excerpt from Married by Monday. Book Two in the Weekday Brides Series

Eliza fixated on his lips and felt the tip of her tongue sneak out of her mouth to moisten hers.

Carter sucked in a quick breath.

He was dangerously close. Close enough for her to absorb the masculine scent of his cologne, the very fragrance that lingered on her skin after their one brief intimate moment.

“Have dinner with me, Eliza.” The deep tenor of his voice rumbled in his chest.

“Dinner? I can do dinner.”

Advertising

A good friend of mine told me not to long ago that I'm still advertising my caviar work with a beer budget. She's right. I've never put a lot of money into advertising...didn't have the funds to put much into advertising. Up until the success of Wife by Wednesday I simply couldn't justify the expense. I find that the best advertising is word of mouth. Nothing tells a reader to pick up a book more than a recommendation from a friend.

However, and this is a big however, once a reader has an author on an 'automatic buy' list, that reader needs to be reminded when books become available. Not all readers sign up for newsletters and lets face it, some newsletters are lost in spam filters or skimmed over like the Bed, Bath and Beyond adds.

I have plenty of fellow authors ask me where I spend my advertising money. Well...I tell them, I run an add on Goodreads, but nothing to fancy there. Just a book cover and a link. I blog on other blogs and try and do as many interviews as time allows.I schedule blog tours with a marketing group to help me find new blogs to reach. Other than that, however, I don't spend anything.  I'm now looking into magazine adds, online and paperback. I know I enjoy seeing my favorite authors adorning the pages of the magazines I pick up.

As of yet I haven't had many authors tell me that an add has = sales. There isn't a way to truly track an add to see if it directly affects sales. I do know that once a book hits the bestseller lists sales climb. This is something I can track and watch.

Most of my readers are online. They have to be. I might be one of the only NYT's Bestselling Authors who has yet to have her book on a shelf at a brick and mortar store. *sigh* Oh, well! I'll take my success and my readers however I come by them. I'm thankful for each and every one of you who read my books and look for more.

I am working on a more efficient newsletter and encourage those of you who want to be informed about my releases to sign up for my Yahoo Group. It's not a chatty group, just a collection of names so I can send you my newsletters and important announcements.

I would also explain to my readers that I have to write as well as promote my books. The more my readers are talking about me, the less I have to which means I can write more. Hint...hint... LOL

Feel free to SHARE my above graphic for your blog, your facebook page, or whatever you want.

Now...back to my latest WIP

Happy Reading,
Catherine

Married by Monday Barnes & Noble Bestseller

I have the best fans evah! I don't even have the print out yet and Married by Monday is hitting the charts on Barnes & Noble. And lookie there... Wife by Wednesday is getting a 2nd wind. Yesterday Sam and Blake made another appearance on Amazon's top 100 in Kindle books.

I'm supremely happy to have the reviews I do for Carter and Eliza. I was a bit worried, as some of you know. The pressure of writing a great follow up to a New York Times Bestseller was much greater than I thought it would be. I didn't want a repeat of Wife...but I did want to keep some of the same tone.

As some of you know, I'm a pantser as a writer. I have a general outline but the meat of my books is written as I go. I thought I had a handle on where this story was going and then BAM! Eliza had a gun in her purse and the story took a turn.

Here is what some of you are saying...

Angie (Goodreads) ~ " Catherine has you on the edge of your seat begging for more."

Julie (Goodreads) ~ "Catherine Bybee surprised the hell out of me with the suspense in this book."

Heather (Goodreads) ~ "What a wonderful story about family, friendship and the choices one has to make even though they may be some of the most difficult and scary that you'll face in life."

Shirl (Goodreads) ~ "I would recommend this book to everyone that likes suspense, romance and holding your breath as you read, hoping it never ends."

Mom on the Run (Amazon) ~ ", I could always tell it was good if my fingers tingled when the author nailed it and I felt real emotion between the characters."

Clare ( Amazon) ~ "Romance mixing with the amazing level of suspense keeps the reader on the edge of their seat the whole time and just when you think you have it sussed...wham, Ms. Bybee gets in another plot twist."

Let me tell you about the power of reviews. Most people only write a review if they really loved a book, or if they hate a book. For an author, reviews on Amazon or B&N or even Goodreads, is a way for a reader who might not have read the author before make a decision to try someone new.

One of the reasons "Romance" is a comfortable read for us is because we know there will be a HEA. We tend to stick with the same authors because we 'know' them. but we all love to find someone new, someone untried.

Reviews help overall sales for an author. Even bad ones, which is kind of strange. If you only see glowing reviews chances are you'd think the author has 'planted' those reviews by asking their friends to go on and rave. When not so great reviews are posted alongside the good ones it adds validity. Strange, but true.

I've only had a couple of 'not so great' reviews as of yet. I'm sure there will be more. It's not possible to please everyone with every book. But as of now I don't think most of my fans will be disappointed with Married by Monday... and that is because many of you have taken the time to tell me you enjoyed my story.

****HINT HINT****

Write reviews. Even if it's a few words with a star rating... This goes for other authors as well as me.

Married by Monday ~Excerpt~

A longer taste of Married by Monday.  Enjoy!

He folded his arms over his chest. “I suppose you could say I’m following Blake’s lead. Marriage solves a few fundamental problems in my career path.”
She stared at him full on now, not trying to look away. “Your problems. Not mine.”
“Problems you helped play a role in.” He saw the spark in her eye before she managed her first syllable of defense.
She sat the tea down and placed a hand on the counter. “That’s low, Carter.”
“And true or you’d be the first to tell me I’m wrong. If I had a choice, I’d be married by Monday to help dispel all the media crap created by yours and Gwen’s night on the Texas town. I thought I could come to you and obtain a little bit of cooperation.”
“A little bit of cooperation. Marriage is a tad more than a little bit of anything.” Her voice rose and her knuckles started to grip the counter.
“Yet you earn your living arranging marriages or partnerships on trite reasons less important than mine.” How dare she follow a moral high ground. Maybe she’d forgotten how well versed he was on her and Samantha’s business.
“You forget that our clients have to approve of the relationships we arrange. They have to like the person—”
He laughed, interrupting her. “Do you really want to pretend we aren’t friends to prove your point?”
Her cheeks grew rosy which he had to admit was a much better than the pasty color she’d been sporting when he walked into the house. He felt the fire burning inside her as she shot daggers with her eyes.
“You’re my best friend’s husband’s friend. If you’re looking for a wife you might peek into your little black book, or whatever it is you use, and draw another name.”
Carter let his arms drop and took two steps closer. The angrier she became, the more his blood churned. His body responded to her outrage, but not in anger. “I don’t want to draw another name.”

Six Sentence Sunday ~ Married by Monday

His jaw dropped and his words dried up. Shock, admiration, and desire flashed in his eyes. “Eliza.” Carter’s voice was breathy.
A wave of feminine power tugged at her pride, as he stood there speechless.
“Hey, Carter,” she said.
“Wow.”
She felt her cheeks warm. The others in the room grew silent.

Married by Monday ~ Blurb ~

I'll be giving you all a taste or two of Married by Monday as I polish her up for you.
For now I'm sharing the blurb ~ So, dear reader...does this whet your appetite?

It’s better for both
of them to be

 Married by Monday

Carter Billings:

Sandy blond hair and Hollywood good looks, Carter Billings could have any woman he wants. However, when he makes his bid for the Governor's seat in the state of California, he needs to settle down and become a family man. Eliza, the woman he secretly adores, embodies the perfect amount of spice and passion to suit his marital needs, but she’s not interested in becoming Mrs. Billings. She can't even stand to be in the same room with him.

Eliza Havens:

It’s much easier to drive Carter away than to give into desire. Matching couples is how she earns a living, but getting married isn’t an option. The secrets she carries are too dangerous to entangle anyone else. When her hidden identity and past threaten her future, she’s left with little choice. Carter is quick to offer solutions to both their problems, but saying yes could mean endangering the man she’s growing to love.

THE END -

Married by Monday has those two amazing words typed at the end of it.

THE END - Which really is the beginning, but yeah baby. I'm done with my beginning draft. I will edit the hell out of it, send it to my critique partner, edit some more, send it to my editor, edit it some more, send it to beta readers...edit some more.

Then it's to you! The Happy Reader.

The cover is already done. So, my goal is to have this to you the first week in June. Finger crossed and I'll keep you updated.

Wedding Bells are Ringing!

I love Carter and Eliza. And this story has more depth. I hope you're all ready for that. Some of what made Sam and Blake so much fun was the ease of their relationship. There are some unexpected twists in Married by Monday...a little romantic suspense...and a whole lotta tension to make it all pop.

Whoo Hoo...

News and Updates

NEWS NEWS NEWS NEWS NEWS!

I'm home from our winter trip in the RV... aka The Big Rolling Turd... we had a great time traveling the southern section of the western states. We visited the snow, let the kids get good and wet, then moved to the dryer claimant of the southwest. All in all it was a nice vacation without a lot of drama or frozen pipes. Good times.

Now, onto Bybee news:

I'm working quickly on edits for Highland Shifter. And yes, I'm working with an editor. I learned with Wife by Wednesday to always have a third and forth set of editorial eyes. I missed a few things in Wife by Wednesday and many a reader has let me know it.

Live and Learn!

The cover for Highland Shifter is AMAZING! - Once the final tweak is done I'll post it here for all to drool over.

NEW NEWS:

I have pulled Before the Moon Rises and Embracing the Wolf away from the publisher. It's all amicable, but the bottom line in my world is a cover sells a book. I think BTMR is judged by the sweater vested man on the cover and I think that has kept this short werewolf novella from readers hands. The cover for Soul Mate is amazing and this book has done very well since its release. As for Embracing the Wolf... again, this cover doesn't scream paranormal romance and it should. I'd also like to put this book in print. It will be a shorter print book, but maybe after I revise it a little I can give it the glory it deserves. So, dear reader... these books will be reissued as self published work sometime in the early spring.

MEET THE AUTHOR NEWS:

I'm going to the Romantic Times Convention in Chicago this April. Because of policy changes with The Wild Rose Press I won't be able to sign my time travel books at the 'big book' signing, but I will try my best to sign books at the ebook / indie book signing. And I will have table time at Club RT. So, don't be shy and come on over so I don't look like a geek all alone! LOL

No update yet on Married by Monday... I'm still working on Carter and Eliza's story which has a ton more meat than Wife by Wednesday. I hope to make this book a little longer as well.

A lil' classic holiday eye candy

Christmas came early for me this year - Wife by Wednesday has made the #1 spot on Romance on Amazon and ha stayed there for over a week now. I've hit #2 on all of Amazon E-Books - and let me tell you something... it's fan-freaking-tastic to be here. I've had lots of wonderful reviews and feedback from readers. And yeah, the paycheck is gonna be nice when it comes. I never thought I'd see my name on the top of these lists.

Thanks to everyone who read Wife and who took a few minutes out of your day to tell me or Amazon or Goodreads your thoughts. I am hard at work on Carter and Eliza's story Married by Monday and hope to have it out there in a couple of months. So no worries there!

A print version of Wife by Wednesday will be available in a few days on Amazon. Trade Paperback for under 10 bucks. xoxo

Time to Celebrate

This has been one of the most amazing weeks in my writing life. I clicked online and found Wife by Wednesday in the top #100 in contemporary romance last Friday. And in that same week I found Wife in the top #100 of all Kindle eBooks. And #4 on Amazon Contemporary Romance.

It's just crazy how Sam and Blake have taken off.

I am in the process of putting Wife in print - Isn't the whole cover lovely?

Did you notice the 'Book One' thing?

So thank you all, dear readers, who are making Wife by Wednesday such a wonderful success.

Want a lookie at Married by Monday?

Here is my Six Sentences for this Sunday ~ Unedited and RAW - Carter is waiting for Eliza to show up for a press conference, when she walks in the room he doesn't recognize her at first...

“Jay, what’s going on, where’s…” Carter’s voice trailed off when Eliza lifted her eyes to meet his.
His jaw dropped and his words dried up. Shock, admiration, and desire flashed in his eyes. “Eliza.” Carter’s voice was breathy.
A wave of feminine power tugged at her pride as he stood there speechless.
“Hey, Carter,”
