Yet another crazy week in Catherine's life. First of all I wanted to remind you about a great place to find Indie bestsellers. Check out Indie Reader ~ I'm not just yakking about them cuz I'm on their list...but because they are doing some great things to promote self published authors.

As some of you know, I'm #8 on the E-Book Fiction list on the New York Times Bestseller list this week. Which just rocks my world. And I'm #45 on the USA Today list. I'm not sure why when you look under Romance I don't come up...but oh well.

I'm getting ready for my blog tour for Highland Shifter. There will be giveaways so be sure and keep an eye out for that.

I'm over at Emma Lai's blog today talking a little bit about Highland Shifter, so come on over and wave.

Blog Tour with Rebecca Royce ~World Building ~

 Today I have Rebecca Royce on tour with her new release, Embraced. Great cover, BTW ~ I asked her to talk to us about world building.

World Building

When writing a book, like Embraced, World Building is actually a little bit complicated? Why, you might ask? Well because Embraced is a world that is now but not actually our now.  Have I confused you?

Starting in the world of Eye Contact, I created a world where people with psychic abilities exist but are locked away in Institutions to keep the general public safe.  This idea continues in Embraced. 

So right away we have certain truths and certain things that are the same.  There are still countries.  They still exist.  Laws in those countries are the same as they are today except for additional laws handling the Conditioned.  The USA still has the Constitution but there are amendments excluding the Conditioned from The Bill of Rights.

There are still things like cell phone, Swiss Bank Accounts, fast cars, and restaurants. There are shopping malls.  But there are also hidden societies helping to free the Conditioned and groups out to find them where they hide. 

So, for me, creating Embraced wasn’t so much about what was different as much as what was added.  It had to work within the confines of now. If this was possible, if it could happen, then it had to work logically.  Everything had to be the same except for what was an additional element. 

I hope I’ve made sense and that you might like to spend some time getting to know the world I’ve made up.  Or have I made it up? (wink-wink)

The lovely and talented, Rae Summers

Time to kick off the August Tour~ From South Africa, I'd like to introduce you all to Rae Summers, aughor of Let's Misbehave. *love that title*

CB: Welcome to my blog. I look forward to learning more about you and your work.

Thank you for hosting me here today Catherine.

CB: Tell us a little bit about you. How long have you been writing? How many books and what genre have you written?

I started writing about eight years ago but I’ve only taken it seriously for about the last three. My first attempt was an epic Dark Ages drama that grew and grew but never got finished. It was only when I started writing Romance that everything began to click into place. Now I write short (but not so sweet!) romances set in the Jazz Age, the first of which has recently released through The Wild Rose Press.

CB: Tell us about the book you’re highlighting today on my blog? (*can be a new or older release or up-coming*)

Let’s Misbehave is set in London in the late 1920s, and it’s the story of Gabrielle, a nightclub singer and Flapper. Until the moment she meets the staid aristocrat Sebastian, she thinks she’s got her life sussed. She sets out to seduce Sebastian, wanting him to let loose just a little before he settles down and marries the ‘suitable’ woman chosen for him. But what starts out as a bit of fun soon leads to heartache as Gabrielle breaks all her own rules and falls in love.

CB: What do you love most about this job?

I love exploring new ideas. Starting a new story with new characters is like falling in love all over again. I just wish there were more hours in every day though, as there are so many wonderful stories in my head just waiting to be told!

CB: If there was one thing you could change about the writing business, what would it be?

The wait times! Publishing must be the slowest business on earth, and as I’ve spent my entire adult life in film-making where everything happens yesterday, I have very little experience at being patient. At the same time I’d really like to change the time it takes me to write a story too. As I said, there are so many stories that want to be written, and in an ideal world each one would get the time it deserves.

CB: What do you say when someone says…”Oh, you write THOSE kinds of books.”

So far I’ve been lucky and no-one has said it – at least not to my face! But even if they dared, I’d simply smile and say ‘yes’. I’m a loud and proud reader and writer of romance.

CB: Give us a taste of your latest masterpiece:

She shifted in her seat to take a harder look at him and felt an unfamiliar frisson of longing. He was not her usual type. He was too staid, too tightly wound, to interest her. Men like that held back all their lives, never living, never feeling. She wanted to feel everything. She wanted to experience every sensation, go places she’d never been. She wanted to taste life. Because only in those thrilling moments of living on the edge was she able to overcome the sense of loss that infected their generation.

He must have sensed her eyes on him, for he turned to look at her. Driving, even at this decorous speed, had altered him. His sandy hair was tousled by the wind, and his bright blue eyes were alight with excitement. He even laughed to catchher staring.

Her stomach did a flip. She imagined those eyes bright with mischief, burning with desire. It would be a thrill to be the one to put that look there, to push him over the edge and make him lose his careful control. It could be done. If just this little drive could stir his excitement, imagine what full blown arousal would do. The devil voice inside her head laughed.

Before he married and settled down, and allowed that spark to die inside him, Sebastian needed to learn to live. And she was going to show him how.

Rae Summers Bio

Rae's first grade teacher was so seriously concerned by her day dreaming that she called her parents in for a conference. Fortunately, her parents staunchly defended Rae's right to daydream and these days she's able to prove their faith right by turning those day dreams into novels. She hopes her stories bring as much pleasure to her readers as they bring to her.

Rae Summers lives in South Africa where she works in television advertising, a line of work that is only glamorous on very rare occasions. When she isn't working or being mom to two young daughters, Rae can be found with her nose in a book.
