Video Blogging about edits.

Yeah, aren't edits fun?! It is difficult to juggle them...especially keeping the characters straight. Sometimes one character's personality traits will "bleed" through into another and then they start doing all kinds of crazy things. Not fun. Best of luck with them all!

Right now I'm in the world of Kilts and Time Travel. Soon the Werewolves will take over.

Then again, my next book can be about kilt wearing werewolves who also time travel. Okay, maybe not.

Very cool! The two minute format is good. I enjoyed watching your video blog. I have two contracts with TWRP and working on the third piece for submission. How you juggle more than one edit at a time is beyond me. Kudos for being able to do that, Catherine. Best of luck with your novels.

Yes, edits take the energy from creative mind set. Why do you think I struggled so much last year? I'm trying to do better. -vbg- [-so google won't think that's html... ;o)]

Keep up the wonderful videos. I love them.

Edits are the nemesis of book publishing. Wouldn't it be wonderful to skip that whole process?
Love the video blog. Just the right length and you look great.

Skipping edits? Hummm... I don't think the editors would like that. LOL. Right Lori? Fran?
As for me... I'm only going to record my video blog on 'good hair' days. grin.

OK, folks, don't throw things at me...I like the editing process. It's sort of a comfortable, safe, checkpoint where you can se what works and what doesn't before it goes out there.

I learn every time a good editor gets hold of my stuff. Every time. And, yes, I'm stubborn and resist certain things, but a good, taactful editor will insist when she knows she's right.

I don't think I've ever taken more than a week to get edits back. I just get so excited about the whole thing.

Well, Catherine, what a hoot! What a way to keep people interested. What I think is, I lurrrrve it! Not sure I am ready to put myself “out there”, but you come over beautifully.
I have to say, my WRP editor, Laura Kelly, is good. Extremely intuitive. She can see what needs fixing immediately. I also have to say, I generally don’t disagree with her. Honestly! My first pubbed with WRP is vastly improved by her editing. I trust her is what I think I’m saying. And vis-à-vis the rush to get the edits back—I did, being a nervous new writer. But now I prefer to try to write the edits right. As for multitasking on the writing side...pass the tequila!

Catherine, I so love your video blogs!

As for edits, I don't really mind them. When I find I don't agree with a suggestion, I let it simmer in my brain for a while. After the initial shock, the editor almost always has a point. After all, she has the same goal as you do -- to put out the best book possible.

Looking forward to video blog number three!

I don't mind the editing process. But I wish I could multi-task and pull something new off the shelf. I'm itching to write something new. Thanks for stoppin' by Helen.

And Angel... I'm not cyber throwing anything your way. Your writing is so tight I'd be shocked to find an editor who could find one period out of place. I'm sooooo in envy of that with you.

Oh my gosh -- you're hilarious! If I had your phone number, I'd call you up and tell you how awesome this video blog is. grin

And what a great topic you introduced. One that's near and dear to my heart. Naturally, I'm in the group of people who like the editing process. ha ha

Great outfit, by the way! You look wonderful.

You're a hoot to watch, Catherine! I love your video blogs. I am not a good multi-tasker in that respect, because I get too involved in whatever project I'm doing. I don't know, maybe add a little of that tequila to the edit-ville---for a different perspective!!

Liked your hair both days, but it was more tamed---shall we say---today. But who am I to say? My hair is usually up in a clip with pieces sticking out.

I must confess, I've loved the editorial suggestions I've received so far. With my latest, my editor suggested a prologue to help set up the world, and I totally ran with it. In fact I ended up changing a couple of key plot points because of it - luckily my editor loved them, so that was a relief!!!

You have some much personality, Catherine!!! I watched your first video blog, and even though I couldn’t hear a thing, I perfectly understood the language of dance and joined right in. But this one, I could hear loud and clear. And it was amazing. (Thanks for dance move no. 2)
Without edits I’d be a blundering mess. During edits all I want to do is start something new. So I know what you mean. I crave it, I give in to it and I call it Editing Therapy.

So, I have to tell you all... I just received my almost final set of edits from my editor for Binding Vows. Almost final you ask??? You know the one, "this is it... before going to a beta reader... then maybe one more... then galley.." It feels so final.. yet it isn't final..

Oh geeze... I think there's some tequila in the cupboard somewhere......

Hi Catherine - great blog. I tend to work on several projects at the same time. If one isn't going well I'll work on another. When I have edits in the equation, they normally have a fairly quick turnaround - a matter of days - so I do those first. If the edits are particularly yucky or hurt my head, I'll work on the edits in the morning and on my current project during the afternoon. I've trained myself to do that and the process works for me now.

Every writer is different and they work out a process to suit their needs. It's not much fun when several sets of edits arrive at once. My July was like that and I had a constant stream. I was ready for the holiday I took after that month of edits!

Great video!

I've only just received my first contract, but I have more than a few stories in process. When the first edits came in, I set everything else aside and just hammered them out...in two days. (I can't let things stew. It drives me batty.) Of course that then probably contributed to the second round of edits, where I let my writing get a little lazy.

Loved this blog too!

I'm a one project at a time gal. I like to get one finished before I jump into another one. Or else I can't think straight. Then again, that could just be the screaming children in the background. LOL

Catherine, this is great! You look so edit-stressed in this video. But how good it is. Keep the videos coming. I think people really like them. Good luck with edits. I tend to edit my work to death even before I ever sub it!
